Jessica Chastain Brings the Women's March to 'SNL' for Her Opening Monologue! (Video)

Jessica Chastain leads Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong in song during her opening monologue on Saturday Night Live.

The two-time Oscar-nominated actress hosted the episode on Saturday (January 20) and because she wasn’t able to attend the Women’s March that day, she brought the march to the show.

“I wish I could have been there, marching alongside them,” she told the crowd.

Jessica and the ladies marched on stage while singing the song “You Don’t Own Me” and some of the audience members even wore pink pussy hats!

The choreography reminded us of the moment from the movie The First Wives Club.

Jessica Chastain Shows Jimmy Fallon What It's Like to Play Female Roles - Watch Here!

Jessica Chastain and host Jimmy Fallon illustrate how underwritten female characters are in this hilarious sketch during last night’s (January 18) episode of The Tonight Show!

During the segment, the two-time Oscar-nominated actress and Jimmy switched it up by swapping genders while they read movie scenes – Jessica played the male role, while Jimmy played the female role.

They performed scenes from a typical romantic comedy, action movie, and sci-fi flick, and while the scenes themselves were made up, the inequality between the male and female parts was painfully familiar. “I barely got to speak there,” Jimmy said at one point.

Jessica also shares some of the SNL hosting advice she got from pals Gal Gadot and Amy Schumer, reveals what it was like to witness Oprah‘s inspirational Golden Globes speech and recounts the embarrassing first time they met.

Jessica Chastain Recalls the Moment Her Mother's Boyfriend Slapped Her: 'I Just Kicked Him in the Genitals'

Jessica Chastain is on the cover of WSJ. Magazine‘s Talents & Legends issue.

Here’s what the Molly’s Game actress had to share with the mag:

On how her past informs her choices: “My mom was a single mom; I don’t know who my biological father is, and I grew up in a household that was really financially unstable. There was a turning point in my life where we were living with someone I didn’t like very much, a boyfriend of my mom’s. And he did something—my room was messy or whatever and he had taken my clothes, and I was telling him to give me back my stuff —and he slapped me. And I just kicked him in the genitals, and he fell to the ground immediately. It was me, my sister and my brother—and I remember looking at my sister’s face, and we were both like, ‘Oh, my God, what did I just do?’ And then I ran out of the house. But I always look back on that moment as knowing that, OK, if anything happens to me, I’m capable of fighting back. He never messed with me again. If you allow a bully to intimidate or victimize you, they’ll continue to do it. Bullies are actually weak; they don’t go after strong people.”

On how Harvey Weinstein introduced her once: “He actually told the audience, ‘If I had to get in a boxing ring with Muhammad Ali or Jessica Chastain, I would choose Muhammad Ali.’”

On her husband Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo: “I never wanted to get married. When I first met my husband, he knew that marriage wasn’t something I was interested in. And then as we got to know each other, the idea of marriage shifted for me. There are some things worth celebrating—and he’s worth celebrating. I actually love being married. I never thought I would, but this is a spectacular human being, and I am celebrating that I get to share my life with him.”

Jessica Chastain Calls Out Alleged 'All the Money in the World' Pay Disparity Between Michelle Williams & Mark Wahlberg

UPDATE: More information about this story has been released, including how much Mark was paid vs. how much Michelle was paid.

Jessica Chastain is calling out the producers of All the Money in the World for an alleged pay disparity between the film’s stars Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg.

You may remember, All the Money in the World originally starred Kevin Spacey and when multiple allegations of sexual misconduct came to light, Christopher Plummer replaced him and reshoots were quickly pulled off ahead of the film’s release date.

Women and Hollywood founder Melissa Silverstein first tweeted, “On the day after display of female power at the #goldenglobes, I learned that there was an egregious pay gap between Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg for the All the Money in the World reshoot. Did they think this wouldn’t come out? Unacceptable #TimesUp”

Molly’s Game actress Jessica Chastain responded to the tweet and wrote, “I heard for the reshoot she got $80 a day compared to his MILLIONS. Would anyone like to clarify? I really hope that with everything coming to light, she was paid fairly. She’s a brilliant actress and is wonderful in the film.”

The director of the film, Ridley Scott, did previously say that everyone did the reshoots for free. “Everyone did it for nothing. They all came in for free,” he previously told USA Today.
