Sam Heughan & 'Outlander' Writers Respond to Fan Questioning Lost Moment in Reunion Episode

One fan of Outlander got their hands on the script pages from the highly anticipated reunion episode with Jamie and Claire, and seemed curious why a detail was left out.

“why didn’t Jamie fall apart when seeing pics of Bree? It was in the script,” the fan tweeted. Bree is Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan)’s daughter that he had never before seen.

The official Twitter account of the Outlander writers answered, “It’s our intention that all action lines are filmed. we’re disappointed this one wasn’t. Will talk more about it on podcast. #OutlanderALN.”

Then, the Twitter account clarified that it had nothing to do with Sam’s amazing performance in the episode that the detail was left out. “Just to be clear, disappointed we didn’t meet fan expectations. NOT disappointed in powerful, emotional performance of @SamHeughan #Podcast,” they tweeted.

“And to be clear, process is organic and collaborative. Sometimes details are lost in exchange for others. Drama.x #adaptation,” Sam responded.

I’ve been quite disappointed from this season the passion is gone

oh ffs, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS. shooting scripts and the final product are rarely the same. scenes or moments are cut in editing. sometimes fans are way too involved and too entitled. fan service is getting out of hand

  • LittlePaperStars

Seems like these fans don;t understand the creative process, directions such as that are more of a suggestion and illustration of how a scene will play out. Often whats written on the page just doesn’t translate when the blocking happens and they’re working through a scene. Things change and evolve. Nothing is set in stone and thats where the best material often comes from. This was a beautiful episode and played out wonderfully hitting all the emotional marks that was required in the best possible way. Shame the rabid fans feel so entitled and lack understanding. At this point, few people know those character s better than the people writing and playing them

i completely agree. people keep saying read the book, read the book – which i haven’t – but the show is awful this season. it was really good season 1 and half of season 2. it started to get lame and even the reunion sex scene was meh, all weird and not even passionate really.
